Arsenal have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Napoli’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, narrowing the options for the Nigerian forward’s potential next destination.
This revelation comes from journalist Ciro Troise, who shared the details on Radio Capri, as reported by Calcio Napoli.
Throughout the summer, Arsenal had been heavily linked with a move for Osimhen, amid widespread speculation that Mikel Arteta’s squad could use a world-class striker to bolster their attacking options.
Osimhen, who is rumored to be eager to leave Napoli, appeared to be a perfect fit for the Gunners. Napoli, too, seemed open to the idea of selling, provided they received the right offer. However, finding a club willing to meet Napoli’s valuation of the striker has been no easy feat. Chelsea, long-time admirers of Osimhen, have yet to make a serious bid, while Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have been hesitant to make a move until they offload some players.
This situation seemed to present Arsenal with a golden opportunity to swoop in and secure Osimhen’s signature, with several reports indicating that the North London club was preparing a major, surprise offer to outmaneuver their rivals.
However, Troise has now quashed those rumors, asserting that Arsenal have decided to step back from the negotiations and will not be pursuing the deal any further.
“Osimhen? Nothing has changed,” Troise stated.
“He resurfaces every now and then, but the situation remains unchanged: PSG won’t go beyond €70m and hasn’t sold Kolo Muani yet. Meanwhile, Chelsea and Arsenal have withdrawn.”
