South Carolina women’s basketball named finalist for 5-star post player

The South Carolina women’s basketball program continues to strengthen its future roster by being named among the top seven schools vying for Olivia Vukosa, a highly sought-after five-star post player. Vukosa’s announcement solidifies the Gamecocks’ position as a leading contender for her commitment.

In addition to their recruiting efforts, the Gamecocks are celebrating individual accolades within their current squad. MiLaysia Fulwiley, a sophomore guard, has been honored as one of the four finalists for The Dawn Staley Award. This prestigious award recognizes the top NCAA Division I women’s basketball player who exemplifies exceptional ball-handling, scoring, distribution, and an unwavering will to win—qualities that mirror Coach Dawn Staley‘s illustrious career.

Fulwiley’s performance this season has been instrumental in the team’s success. She earned the SEC Sixth Woman of the Year title and secured a spot on the All-SEC Second Team. Her contributions were pivotal in South Carolina clinching their third consecutive SEC Tournament title, where she averaged 12.0 points per game and showcased her defensive prowess by ranking among the top in blocks and steals during conference play.

As the Gamecocks prepare for the upcoming NCAA Tournament, they are also exploring opportunities to bolster their roster through the transfer portal. The coaching staff is actively identifying potential targets to maintain the team’s competitive edge in the seasons ahead.

The combination of securing top-tier talent like Vukosa, celebrating current player achievements, and strategic roster enhancements positions South Carolina women’s basketball for sustained excellence in the collegiate landscape.
