Duke vs Georgia Tech: How To Watch, Weather Forecast & More.
Duke Football Is 4-0 and Heads to Atlanta for a Rainy Showdown With Georgia Tech
Duke is undefeated, comes off a bye week and plays at Georgia Tech on Saturday in what is expected to be a wet, windy game. The Blue Devils have been one of the biggest early surprises of the college football season.
Game day details
- Matchup: Duke (4-0, 1-0 ACC) at Georgia Tech (1-3)
- Kickoff: 3:30 p.m. ET (that’s 8:30 p.m. in Lagos)
- TV: ESPN2
- Venue: Bobby Dodd Stadium, Atlanta
- Weather: Rain is in the forecast with winds gusting to around 17 mph.
Why the 4-0 start is a surprise
Preseason expectations were modest. The transfer portal and NFL Draft took much of the production from last season’s ACC title team, and ESPN’s FPI projected a 6-6 record. A preview from NC Football News predicted 7-5.
Instead, Duke has won four straight:
- Tulane (Sept. 5) at home
- Illinois (Sept. 12) on the road
- Stanford, 35-7 (Sept. 19)
- William & Mary (Sept. 26), a blowout in which Duke posted 638 yards of offense and went 8-of-13 on third down
Quarterback Walker Eget has run the offense. He threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns against Illinois, and backup Dan Mahan went 6-of-7 for 126 yards and three touchdowns in the William & Mary game.
One analysis called Duke possibly the most underrated team in college football, and revised its season range to a 7-5 floor and 11-1 ceiling. Duke has played only one conference game so far, so the ACC test is ahead. Miami led the standings at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in league play as of the bye week.
The Manny Diaz effect
Third-year coach Manny Diaz has built a strong record, going 18-9 in his first two seasons, including Duke’s first outright ACC title since 1962 last year. He signed an extension through 2031, and Duke announced he landed the best recruiting class in program history for 2026.
What to expect on the field
Duke’s strengths:
- Run defense: It allows just 2.3 yards per carry, seventh in the FBS, and ranks near the top nationally in fewest first downs allowed.
Georgia Tech’s weaknesses:
- Its ground game ranks 110th nationally at 126.3 yards per game.
- It converts 35.4% of third downs, 102nd nationally.
A concern for Duke: the Blue Devils rank near the bottom nationally in sacks at 1.0 per game.
One analyst argues the weather favors the more complete team, which he sees as Duke, and that steady ball security and field position could keep Georgia Tech pinned deep.
Series history
Georgia Tech won last year’s meeting 27-18 on October 18, 2025, and the teams are meeting again this year.
Betting odds
- Spread: Duke -6.5 (some books at -7)
- Moneyline: Duke about -245 to -275, Georgia Tech about +200 to +225
- Total: 43.5 (one book listed 50)
- Trends: Duke is 4-0 against the spread this season, while Georgia Tech hasn’t covered yet.
- Projection: numberFire gives Duke a 66.2% win probability, and one model projects a 28-21 Duke win.
Lines vary by book and may move with the weather.
What to watch
- Ball security in the rain. Turnovers could decide the game.
- Georgia Tech’s rushing attack against Duke’s top-ranked run defense.
- Duke’s pass rush, which has been quiet.
- Eget’s accuracy in windy conditions.
A win would take Duke to 5-0 and make its ACC title defense look more real.
